DBP, Education Ministry Planning Bahasa Melayu Course For Malaysians Abroad
BESUT, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and the Education Ministry (KPM) are planning to provide Bahasa Melayu courses for Malaysians living overseas to ensure they were not left behind in mastering the national language as citizens of the country.
DBP director-general Dr Awang Sariyan said the plan was a follow-up from the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyidin Mohd Yassin's statement in wanting Malaysians abroad to be given Bahasa Melayu courses to strengthen their command of the national language.
He said the programme was to ensure that the course provided to all Malaysians especially students and government officers serving in foreign missions would be based on a syllabus set up jointly by both KPM and DBP.
"The course will be held during semester holidays in cities according to the continent or region such as Europe, Middle East, East Asia and Oceania," he told Bernama here today.
Dr Awang also said London had been chosen as the centre for Europe, Cairo for the Middle East, Beijing for East Asia and Melbourne, Australia for Oceania.
