SINGAPORE - The Republic and Malaysia are exploring ways to improve the teaching and learning of the Malay language, through a partnership between the Malay Language Centre of Singapore and the Language and Literature Agency in Malaysia.
The two centres will create enrichment programmes for teachers and students.
Four areas of cooperation are being explored.
They include creative writing courses for teachers and training new teachers in standard pronunciation. Also in the pipeline are joint learning camps.
It is hoped that the initiative will also foster closer ties between students from both countries.
Meanwhile, the Malay Language Centre of Singapore will also be sending eight senior teachers to Universiti Pendidikan Indonesia in Bandung for a structured immersion programme.
This is part of the Education Ministry's effort to enhance the training of Malay-language teachers.
